Young Ballerina Inspires After Tragic Accident

Alissa Sizemore has always loved dancing, especially ballet and jazz. However, tragedy struck in May 2014 when the 7-year old’s right foot was severed in a traffic accident, leading to the loss of her right leg below the knee. Still, the Utah girl was determined to return to the dance floor. “I just didn’t want to give up. Dancing has been my favorite thing since I was four,” Alissa told PEOPLE. She was fitted with a prosthetic in September, and soon began practicing again.

This past February, Alissa returned to the stage to perform an emotional routine to Colbie Caillat’s ‘Try,’ her first solo performance since the accident. “I don’t have part of my leg, but I can’t let that stop me. I still want to dance.”
